Lovely lips are a very important facial feature, and those who have abnormally thin or thick lips may wish to have them revised. Achieving full lips is an elusive goal for many women. There is no doubt that lips are a focal point for most women, just look into any purse and chances are you'll find several tubes of lipstick as proof of that. Lipstick, however, can only go so far before one need consider other options.
Lip reshaping may be accomplished with grafting or injection therapy, depending on the desired result. Sometimes facelift with lip surgery is advised to achieve better overall results. The advantage in combining lip augmentation with a facelift, is that some of your own tissue removed from the face can be placed into the lips.
For lips that are too thin, fat grafting, dermis grafting, Surgilips®/ Juvederm Ultra®/ Restylane Lipp®/ injections make them appear larger. In general, grafting procedures are done to enhance the fullness of upper or lower lips. Fat grafting generally requires more than one treatment session. Surgilips®/ Restylane®/ Juvederm® are best used to enhance and define the lip, especially the vermillion role (the junction of the red lip mucosa and the lighter color surrounding skin).
Complications are uncommon but could include infection, scarring, mild asymmetry and diminished lip sensation which usually improves with time. Strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for approximately 1 week. Moderate discomfort is controlled by medication.
Surgilips®/ Restylane®/ Juvederm® injections are usually associated with the least bruising and make-up can frequently be applied immediately after the procedure. Swelling is greatest during the first week following surgery.
Most often women are happy with natural result and improved balance with other facial features.
